Automatically Transforming Paper into Usable Information at BMW

BMW’s central scan center needed to convert millions of paper and digital documents into usable data to support more than 40 business processes. Facing about 15 million pages a year, fragmented “island” capture systems that didn’t meet corporate security or Windows 7 standards, and limited form‑reading that couldn’t handle semi‑structured or unstructured documents, BMW sought a standardized, efficient solution under a tight timeline.

BMW selected Kofax to build DEAS, a company‑wide capture platform based on Kofax Capture and Kofax Transformation Modules. The modular, integrable system replaced legacy components, automated classification and data extraction across document types, and connected easily to systems like Documentum and SAP. Results included a compliant, easier‑to‑manage platform, up to 75% reduction in manual processing for some processes, improved search and document handling, and an ROI that met or exceeded BMW’s targets.
