Elsevier, part of the RELX Group and a global leader in scientific, technical and health publishing, faced an aging website platform (launched in 2004) that made updates slow, fragmented the brand experience and hindered decision‑making and scale. To modernize the site and address content, search and operational issues, Elsevier engaged Squiz for a CMS, search and cloud solution.

Squiz implemented Squiz Matrix CMS with Funnelback search and Squiz Cloud, rebuilt a responsive framework, introduced governance/workflows and page templates, and reduced page numbers by almost 50%. As a result, Squiz helped Elsevier cut time to implement site changes by 60% and increase customer satisfaction by 10%; the platform was later upgraded to Matrix 5.3 to support ongoing content improvements and future personalization.
