A Slack Case Study

Twitter goes remote and hosts a global all-hands meeting in Slack

Twitter, a global technology company of about 4,900 employees, faced a two‑pronged challenge when COVID‑19 hit: keep the platform reliable for users while moving the whole workforce to remote work to protect employee health. Although Slack was already in use, Twitter needed to quickly migrate in‑person meetings and company rituals — including its all‑hands — to digital channels across time zones.

Twitter set up dedicated Slack channels for leadership coordination, employee Q&A, travel and security updates, and day‑to‑day team work, and ran its first fully digital all‑hands using Google Meet with questions managed transparently in #oneteamQs. The shift boosted participation, kept teams aligned and socially connected, and produced a smooth companywide transition to sustained remote work practices that Twitter plans to carry forward.
