A SITA Case Study

Preview of the Heathrow Airport Case Study

Heathrow Airport - Customer Case Study

Heathrow Airport faced the challenge of simplifying a complex IT estate across six UK airports, cutting costs, improving resilience and delivering real‑time information and tracking to enhance passenger and airline services. To meet these objectives the airport selected SITA (as part of a Capgemini-led consortium) to deliver its Communications@Airports solutions and outsource telecom and airport communications functions so Heathrow could focus on core airport operations.

SITA won a five‑year, US$65M agreement to orchestrate and manage telecom services—providing LAN, WLAN, voice and radio systems, ITIL-based service management and a resilient WAN (covering 90,000 LAN points, 1,300 WLAN access points, 2,800 switches and 4,000 PMR terminals), and transferring 60 network specialists. SITA’s implementation drives measurable impact: more than 10% projected telecom cost savings over five years, improved service levels, greater resilience and business continuity, and a platform to commercialize services and grow non‑aeronautical revenues.
