Safaricom, a leading telecommunications provider in East Africa, needed to make its graduate hiring process more efficient, scalable, and fair. Its existing program was highly manual, required two weeks of in-person assessments and interviews, and created travel and scheduling challenges for candidates and hiring managers. Safaricom partnered with SHL and used SHL’s Early Careers Solution, including cognitive assessments and Smart Interview On Demand, to modernize the process.
SHL helped Safaricom move to a single, online and mobile-friendly hiring platform where candidates could complete video interviews remotely and receive an accessible, branded experience. The result was a 250% increase in graduate intake within six months, a 60% reduction in total hiring costs, and less time required from stakeholders. SHL also helped Safaricom exceed its DEI targets, achieve a 50/50 female-to-male candidate ratio, and hire four graduates with disabilities, while maintaining a 100% offer-to-acceptance rate.
