OpenTable, the online restaurant reservation leader, needed a way to deliver “white glove” onboarding for elite restaurants at scale while also helping those restaurants attract patrons for slower mid‑day weekday seatings. Product manager Taylor Dodds led the effort to find a scalable solution that could both onboard users and surface new marketing capabilities.
OpenTable implemented Pendo guides (in‑app messaging) to notify targeted restaurants about a new feature for filling off‑peak times, driving a 25x increase in engagement. They plan to expand Pendo for additional marketing campaigns, roll out low‑ to no‑touch onboarding for all users, and create a guide center to reduce support calls.
