Case Study: Swisscom achieves clear, consistent multilingual technical documentation with Lionbridge's online glossary

A Lionbridge Case Study

Preview of the Swisscom Case Study

How Swisscom and Lionbridge created a centralized glossary from 30 terminology sources

Swisscom Rollout & Access—the division that plans, installs and maintains Swisscom’s network—was struggling with inconsistent, evolving specialist terminology in its technical documentation and had no central database to ensure uniform use of terms and abbreviations. Lionbridge (formerly CLS Communication) was engaged to provide a terminology management solution, delivering a centrally maintained online glossary/terminology database that subject-matter experts, editors and translators could access and update.

Lionbridge consolidated 30 terminology sources, set up and maintains a searchable database and an online glossary available in four languages (with offline access), and provides linguistic and language‑technology support while editors submit new terms via a dedicated form. The Lionbridge solution removed duplicate and contradictory terms, sped up term lookup, enabled editors to link documents to the glossary instead of inserting separate lists, and ensured consistent, up‑to‑date terminology and translations across Swisscom (20,000 employees).
