Case Study: IBM achieves a centralized, scalable Jira platform and 99.9% uptime with Jira Software Data Center

A Jira Software Case Study

Preview of the IBM Case Study

How IBM leveraged Jira Data Center to build a foundation for the future

IBM relied on Jira Software across hundreds of teams and had grown to more than 170 separate Jira instances, creating inefficiencies, governance gaps, and scaling challenges. To centralize control and support rapid growth, IBM launched “Jira@IBM” with the goal of building a single, scalable “home base” for planning, managing, and tracking development work.

IBM deployed Jira Software Data Center on IBM Cloud using high-performance bare‑metal servers, NGINX load balancing, PostgreSQL clusters, and a shared NFS file system, and paired that with robust monitoring/Slack incident workflows, Marketplace apps and SSO for fast onboarding, and strict security (firewalls, HTTPS, SSH, private VLAN/VPN). The result: a centralized, governed platform that sustains 99.9% uptime while onboarding about 1,000 users per week, enabling global efficiency, agility, and a lean operations team.
