A Jira Software Case Study
Avalara, a provider of cloud-based tax compliance solutions serving more than 30,000 customers, faced a “folder nightmare” of fragmented tools, silos, and hard-to-find documentation that slowed collaboration and made cross-team alignment difficult. Teams duplicated work across systems, struggled to surface executive-level visibility, and found it challenging to keep information current from planning through delivery.
Avalara centralized on the Atlassian platform—adopting Confluence for documentation and Jira Software for cross-functional work—using native automations and Advanced Roadmaps to streamline processes, assign thousands of issues, and manage access. The change eliminated duplicate tracking, increased transparency and agility, and produced measurable gains: about 20,000 tickets created with automation and 825 inclusive edits implemented (including updates from the Inclusive Language Project), improving communication, efficiency, and alignment across the company.
