United Utilities reshapes its transport business with Civica Tranman

United Utilities, formed from the merger of North West Water Transport and Norweb Transport, needed to better manage its 8,000-strong fleet and boost workshop productivity after finding its fleet and workshop systems were disconnected. Civica implemented Tranman with automated data capture, workshop-loading and integration with corporate finance systems, giving United Utilities richer management information and streamlined processes. The results included a 10% annual fleet size reduction (over three years), 25% cut in fleet costs, workshop productivity rising from 41% to 75% in seven months (allowing consolidation from 22 to 11 workshops), reduced clerical workload, more informed purchasing negotiations (one analysis showed a 15% maintenance cost difference) and even a successful warranty recovery that yielded a free truck.
