A Cadence Design Systems Case Study
Samsung, a market leader in solid-state drives, added a PCI Express interface to its SSD controllers to boost data-transfer performance and expand into new OEM markets. That change dramatically increased SoC-level validation complexity—especially for validating PCIe behavior, driver/firmware integration, and large DMA transfers—and Samsung found its traditional simulation-based verification far too slow, needing performance hundreds of times greater to meet schedule and quality goals.
Samsung deployed Cadence’s Palladium XP with Accelerated VIP for PCI Express, bringing an accelerated validation environment online in three weeks that preserved simulation-style control while running hundreds of times faster. The solution doubled team productivity by eliminating long waits, uncovered bugs unreachable by simulation, and will be reused on future PCIe SSD projects.
