Mediahuis, the European publishing company behind NRC in the Netherlands, needed a faster way to optimize digital subscriptions and paywalls. With about 50% of NRC subscriptions coming directly from its own site, Mediahuis wanted to improve conversions, test new paywall strategies quickly, and reduce its heavy dependence on internal technical teams. It turned to Zuora’s Zephr product to support this effort.
Zuora implemented Zephr to let Mediahuis manage paywalls, user journeys, and A/B testing more flexibly through an easy-to-integrate platform. The result was faster changes, recovery of around 200 conversions in one weekend, double the conversion rate for younger audiences in a test, and more than doubling subscriber acquisition over six months.
