Renishaw gets better fit and impedance control for complex flexible PCBs in metrology instruments using CR-8000

Renishaw, a global leader in metrology and precision engineering, faced challenges designing complex flexible and flexi‑rigid PCBs for space‑constrained metrology instruments where both mechanical fit and high‑frequency signal integrity are critical. To improve collaboration between PCB and mechanical teams and to address controlled‑impedance requirements, Renishaw migrated to Design Gateway and Design Force within Zuken’s CR‑8000 platform.

Using Zuken’s CR‑8000 tools, Renishaw moved to 3D PCB visualization, defined bend axes, imported housings (.stp), and used Design Force’s electromagnetic field solvers for controlled‑impedance routing. Zuken’s solution enabled early detection and resolution of housing fit issues (saving considerable time), easier controlled‑impedance routing for high‑frequency signals, improved component placement via 3D layout, and rapid “what‑if” bending scenarios — delivering clearer collaboration and better, more reliable flex PCB designs.
