Case Study: Malvern Instruments achieves first-time PCB fit and improved ECAD–MCAD collaboration with Zuken's CADSTAR Board Modeler Lite

A Zuken Case Study

Malvern Instruments have benefited from CADSTAR Board Modeler Lite by enhancing data collaboration between ECAD and MCAD, and improving manufacturing data

Malvern, a market leader in analytical instrumentation, faced tight space and manufacturing constraints driven by a customer requirement to reduce cost per bench space. They needed better ECAD–MCAD collaboration and more accurate manufacturing data to ensure PCB footprints, keep-outs and critical placements fit inside enclosures and to avoid physical collisions. To address this, they turned to Zuken’s CADSTAR solution, using CADSTAR Board Modeler Lite to bridge electronic and mechanical design data.

Zuken implemented CADSTAR Board Modeler Lite to create 3D board models, import enclosures for collision checking, back‑annotate layout changes, and generate accurate component representations, reducing iterations and duplication between teams. The result: enhanced ECAD–MCAD data collaboration, improved manufacturing data and fewer costly mistakes — in one project more than 20 PCBs fitted first time — helping Malvern speed documentation, assembly readiness and time to manufacture.
