Case Study: ATK boosts cable design productivity with Zuken E3.series

A Zuken Case Study

ATK boosts cable design productivity and eliminates physical mock-ups with Zuken

ATK, a prime contractor for NASA's Space Launch System solid rocket boosters, faced the challenge of designing complex wiring harnesses with a smaller team than used on previous projects, needing to increase productivity and adapt to major design changes without costly physical prototypes. They turned to vendor Zuken and implemented their E3.series electrical CAD (ECAD) solution to establish a digital design process.

Zuken's solution integrated E3.series with ATK's existing Siemens NX MCAD system via Teamcenter, creating a synchronized digital environment. This allowed for automatic design checks, virtual prototyping, and direct transfer of wire length data, eliminating the need for a physical mock-up and lab. The results included substantial time savings, reducing feasibility tests from months to weeks, a higher confidence in design accuracy, and the ability for a significantly smaller team to complete the large-scale project efficiently.
