Zetron Update Adds Capacity, Functionality and P25 to Brazilian Rail System

São Paulo Metropolitan Train Company, the commuter rail operator serving Greater São Paulo, faced growing passenger and train traffic and a regulatory requirement from ANATEL to move to 12.5 kHz narrowbanding while migrating from analog VHF to a Project 25 (P25) digital network. The operator relied on Zetron’s Series 4000 dispatch system, already in use across the region, and sought an update to expand capacity and add digital functionality.

Zetron updated the Series 4000 by adding a Zetron Model 4048 Common Controller and 28 Zetron Integrator RD console positions and integrating the dispatch system with the new P25 network (using a Tait gateway to convert P25 to MDC-1200). The upgrade enabled dual analog/digital operation to include non-migrated cargo trains, met ANATEL’s narrowbanding mandate, improved audio quality and features like PTT ID and selective calling, and included training for 120 dispatchers—delivering measurable expanded capacity and enhanced operational functionality.
