Combined MAX Dispatch/Call-Taking Delivers Small Footprint, Big Benefits

Huntington County Central Dispatch consolidated the city and county public safety answering points to centralize communications, combine staff, and replace 12‑year‑old equipment whose warranties were expiring. To accomplish this, the county selected Zetron’s IP‑based MAX Dispatch and MAX Call‑Taking systems (installed by reseller J&K Communications) to provide a modern, single‑vendor solution.

Zetron’s MAX systems—installed as five positions each with additional remote hospital and backup positions—were integrated with Indiana’s SAFE‑T trunking system, local fire and school VHF networks, and the county highway NEXEDGE® system and went live in October 2013. The deployment reduced console footprint by sharing a single computer, simplified administration (one‑time changes propagate systemwide), improved call‑taking reporting and interoperability, and helped the consolidation realize an estimated $300,000 in savings for 2014, making Huntington County Central Dispatch a model for other counties.
