A Zetron Case Study
Brookfield Rail, the operator of Western Australia’s 3,418-mile (5,500 km) multi-user rail‑freight network that moves over 180 trains daily and carried more than 71 million tons in 2013, needed updated centralized communications to reliably manage train control, track access and signaling across three control centers (Midland, Avon and Picton). To meet this challenge they engaged Zetron and selected the AcomEVO system to replace and standardize their aging communications equipment.
Zetron implemented AcomEVO controllers and consoles at each site (Midland: 1 controller/7 consoles; Avon: 1/4; Picton: 1/4), creating three linked systems with console roaming so any operator can log into any center. The solution improved communications quality and reliability, removed a third‑party DTMF failure point by connecting radios directly, enabled Brookfield’s Communications Group to perform first‑line maintenance, and delivered operational continuity and redundancy that supports 24/7 operations and future phone integration—results Zetron says have met and exceeded Brookfield Rail’s expectations.
