Case Study: Yarra Trams achieves future-proof, scalable multi-site operations with Zetron Acom

Preview of the Yarra Trams Case Study

28-position Acom Supports Yarra Trams’ Multi-site Operations

Yarra Trams, operator of the world’s largest tram network in Melbourne, faced an aging analog dispatch system that was nearing end-of-life and could not be expanded to support consolidated operations, radio/telephone communications, automatic vehicle monitoring, power-center control, customer information and maintenance workflows. To meet these needs they selected Zetron and its Acom product to provide a future‑proof, interoperable, mission‑critical dispatch platform.

Zetron implemented two Acom systems (primary and disaster‑recovery) with 28 console positions (16 in the new Unified Operations Centre, 11 in the DR room and one admin console), a 14‑channel trigger radio backup, and integrations with unified communications, voice loggers, intercoms and existing transceivers. The Acom deployment has run successfully for over a year, giving Yarra Trams replicated OC/DR capability, improved operator usability (configurable screens, instant‑recall recording and monitor‑chosen channels), and an IP‑based, scalable architecture that supports redundancy and future expansion.
