A Zetron Case Study
Broome County, NY, needed a more capable, reliable console solution for its main and backup 9-1-1 centers: the backup center had no radio dispatch, the existing system suffered echoing, lacked broadcast intercom, and was difficult to change and use—challenges that became critical when managing large events (for example, a Bernie Sanders rally of about 5,000 attendees). Broome County selected Zetron and its Acom dispatch systems to address those gaps.
Zetron installed fully redundant Acom systems—17 positions in the main center and 11 in the backup (28 positions total)—adding radio dispatch to the backup, improved audio, and custom web-based paging and intercom interfaces connected to the Acom backroom. The result was a smooth, fast cutover, easy training for dispatchers, dramatically clearer audio (“night and day”), reliable multicasting/patching, and demonstrably better multi-agency coordination during large events—improving Broome County’s overall emergency response and service to the community.
