A Zebra Case Study
Vera Bradley, a Fort Wayne–based designer of women’s handbags, luggage and accessories with about 150 U.S. stores, faced growing pains from rapid expansion: fragmented corporate-to-store communications, email overload, manual scheduling using multiple spreadsheets, and limited inventory visibility that pulled managers off the sales floor and hindered execution. These issues led to unclear task instructions, inconsistent store-level execution, long hours creating schedules, and operational risk in distribution and inventory processes.
The company implemented Zebra’s Workcloud suite (Task Management, Scheduling, Inventory Visibility and analytics) alongside Zebra mobile computers, scanners and printers to centralize tasks, communications, scheduling and inventory audits. Results included a 95% reduction in email volume, task completion rising from 40% to 95%, about 15 hours saved per store per week, faster schedule creation with a 25–50% lift in scheduling effectiveness and roughly 6% annual payroll savings, plus improved inventory accuracy and visibility that freed staff to focus on customers.
