Esurance, an Allstate company founded in 1999, is an online-first insurance provider (SAP Commerce Cloud) that sought to increase confidence and conversions among high‑intent shoppers who compare providers before buying. Even with a strong brand, Esurance needed on-site trust signals to move customers from consideration to purchase.
They ran an A/B test with ~4,000 participants on the last four pages of the buyer journey, adding star ratings and customer testimonials to the sidebar (rating only, testimonial only, and both). All social‑proof variations significantly outperformed the control: combined ratings+testimonials drove up conversion rate by as much as 11.6% overall, testimonials alone produced a 6.5% lift, and social proof typically boosted CVR 4–6%.
