A Xtralis Case Study
Cook Medical Brisbane, a global medical device manufacturer with a high-value, tightly controlled warehouse, needed ultra-early, reliable fire detection to protect cleanroom-grade operations and expensive inventory. Xtralis invited Cook to participate in a beta trial comparing two existing FastSense Plus detectors to the new VESDA‑E VEU in the 2,470 m2 warehouse; the challenge was to match or improve detection performance while simplifying maintenance and preserving the facility’s stringent cleanliness standards.
The VESDA‑E VEU was installed at ground level with a four‑pipe layout and run in parallel with the existing systems during several months of testing. The VEU proved highly stable, detected far lower background obscuration, handled door‑related air disturbances with adjusted thresholds, and ultimately replaced the two FastSense units—delivering equal area coverage, faster smoke transport, superior sensitivity, and reduced maintenance and total cost of ownership.
