VESDA VLI protects multiple Stockholm Metro Depots

The Stockholm Metro Depot, a major public transport operator, faced the challenge of protecting its extensive underground rail network with a fire detection system that would minimize operational disruption. The harsh environmental conditions and the critical need to avoid track closures for maintenance made selecting the right solution difficult. Xtralis, through its partner, recommended a trial of its Very Early Warning Aspirating Smoke Detection (ASD) system to meet this challenge.

The solution implemented was the industrial-grade VESDA VLI aspirating smoke detector from Xtralis, chosen for its rugged design and ability to handle high levels of airborne particles. The centralized installation of these detectors drastically reduced maintenance costs and eliminated the need to block tracks or switch off power, ensuring no business interruption. As a result, two depots are now protected by multiple VLI units, with more sites in the planning stages.
