A Xtralis Case Study
JSP Foam Products’ new plastics storage warehouse in Singapore faced a difficult fire‑detection challenge: high ceilings, heavy dust and packed storage made conventional flame and spot smoke detectors prone to delayed detection, frequent nuisance alarms and difficult maintenance. Management feared costly false alarms and inadequate early warning for smoldering plastics fires, which produce toxic smoke that can linger below ceiling level and be moved by drafts.
The company installed a VESDA aspirating smoke detection solution (VLP and VLF‑250), with four detectors linked for remote monitoring and sampling pipes positioned near likely fire sources. The system’s active sampling, programmable alarm levels and accessible detector placement eliminated nuisance alarms during testing, delivered much earlier, more reliable detection of smoldering fires, reduced maintenance disruption and protected staff, flammable stock and equipment—giving JSP confidence and uninterrupted operations.
