Upscale Department Store Chain Utilizes OSID Smoke Detectors to Protect Customers and Inventory

An upscale, historic department store chain headquartered in Mexico City — carrying high-end domestic and international brands across multiple product lines and locations — needed a reliable, low-profile fire detection solution after experiencing a past devastating fire. Their existing beam and spot detectors suffered alignment problems, frequent false alarms and were difficult to install behind a cosmetic false ceiling, while the retailer also wanted to preserve the store’s upscale aesthetics.

After a tender, installer Security Instruments demonstrated Xtralis OSID (OSI‑45 and OSI‑90), whose wide-angle, imaging-based beams and battery-powered units required far fewer devices than spot detectors and avoided alignment issues. The chain deployed about 100 OSID units across three floors (replacing roughly 150 traditional spot detectors per store), achieving faster, unobtrusive installation, fewer false alarms, easy reconfiguration for store redesigns, and plans to specify OSID in additional locations.
