Sydney Exhibition Centre - Customer Case Study

Sydney Exhibition Centre – Homebush Bay is a large multi‑purpose venue managed by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW that hosted Sydney 2000 Olympic events and can accommodate up to 14,400 m2 of uninterrupted space and 18,000 people. The original hydrant‑monitor solution was expensive and space‑restricting; the centre needed a performance‑based fire detection approach able to detect smoke from any sampling pipe within 30 seconds despite dilution and stratification in its vast volumes.

Heyday Group – Fire Technologies installed a VESDA aspirating smoke detection system: a ceiling pipe network actively samples air to a central laser detector that senses smoke at extremely low levels (about 0.00075% obscuration/m) with programmable alarm thresholds, filtration for dusty events and advanced learning to minimise false alarms. The result was much earlier, reliable warning to enable timely evacuation, reduced unwanted alarms, and a flexible, maintainable system that integrates with existing fire infrastructure.
