Case Study: East Rand Retail Park achieves zero after-hours armed robberies with Xtralis ADPRO FastTrace

Reduces the number of armed robberies at their retail strip mall, one of the largest in the East Rand, South Africa

East Rand Retail Park (ERP), an 18,000 m² open-air shopping mall in Boksburg, South Africa housing major national retailers, was being targeted by violent after-hours smash-and-grab robberies. Criminals armed with AK‑47s used vehicles to break shop windows and load stock, putting guards and response teams at risk and forcing management to find a safer, more effective security solution.

ERP worked with Video Alarm Monitoring SA, Rentsec and CMT Trading to install a remotely monitored, detector-activated video system using PRO-series PIR detectors and ADPRO FastTrace. Motion-triggered CCTV is monitored at a central station where operators can view live video, issue audio warnings, remotely activate pepper gas dispensers and direct armed response to precise locations. Since the system went live in December 2005 there have been no armed robberies, a dramatic reduction in after-hours crime, improved incident auditing and manager access to live feeds, and expanded coverage across the site.
