A Xtralis Case Study
Printing Research Inc. (PRI), a leading maker of inline curing and drying units for large corrugated printing presses, faced a serious fire-risk challenge: their Super Blue UV and infrared lamps run hotter than 1400°F and presses generate ultra‑fine corrugated dust that can smolder and ignite. PRI needed an advanced smoke detection system able to detect the earliest signs of smoke in high‑velocity, dust‑laden airflow while avoiding frequent nuisance alarms.
After testing multiple systems, PRI selected the VESDA VLF‑250 very early warning smoke detector, the only solution that reliably distinguished smoke from fine dust in high airflow conditions. VESDA integrates with press monitoring and fire‑suppression systems to trigger multistage shutdowns and suppression, is now standard in all PRI Super Blue units, and has reduced fire risk while providing customers greater safety and competitive differentiation.
