A Xtralis Case Study
Banham Poultry, a family-owned UK poultry producer supplying about 650,000 birds weekly, built a biomass power plant to convert poultry litter into 5.5 MW of electricity but needed a reliable fire-detection system for the large fuel storage (≈80 m × 25 m). Traditional infrared beam detectors were unsuitable because building movement and heavy contamination cause false alarms and faults.
Eurofyre recommended Xtralis OSID Open Area Smoke Imaging Detection (OSI-90 with OSE-SP emitters), which provides volumetric, three-dimensional coverage, tolerates building flex and high contamination, and uses dual-wavelength IR/UV imaging to dramatically reduce false alarms. The system simplified installation and maintenance, delivered dependable protection for the biomass plant, and eliminated recurring false alarms and faults in regular use.
