A Xtralis Case Study
Value Logistics, a leading outsourced supply chain provider with a fleet of more than 4,600 vehicles and over 350,000 m² of warehousing, opened a new logistics facility in Joostenberg Vlakte, Cape Town. The warehouse’s vast open space (approximately 160 m × 90 m with 21 m ceilings) made conventional smoke detection unsuitable — beam detectors are prone to false alarms from building movement and spot detectors detect too late and are costly and difficult to maintain.
Channel partner Technoswitch and installer Opt‑X deployed Xtralis VESDA aspirating smoke detection (11 VLI‑855 units plus 5 VLCs with remote displays), which continuously samples air through a pipe network and uses four user‑set alarm thresholds for staged response. The solution delivered reliable early warning, reduced maintenance and device counts, and a low‑disruption, fit‑for‑purpose fire detection system tailored to the warehouse environment.
