Leading Textile Retailer Invests in Very Early Smoke Detection with VESDA

Pothys, one of South India’s largest textile showroom chains with a flagship store in Chennai, faced a high fire risk because of highly flammable silk stock and potential overheating of electrical cables. Existing point detectors failed to provide very early warning, could not pinpoint alarm locations, and were labor-intensive and costly to maintain—leaving stock, property and customer safety exposed.

After trialing VESDA air-sampling detection, Pothys installed VESDA VLP and VLC detectors across nine stores with centralized VSM4 monitoring. The system provides very early smoke detection, precise device/location information, remote email/SMS alerts to two responders, and reduced maintenance from hundreds of point detectors to 10–20 VESDA units per store—cutting costs, speeding response and better protecting customers and inventory.
