A Xtralis Case Study
A large chemical plant in Qatar needed a reliable fire-detection solution for its 750,000 sq ft facility located near the ocean, where extreme temperatures, high humidity, nightly fog and desert sand create harsh conditions. With ceilings over 40 ft and extensive manufacturing and high-rack storage, traditional spot detectors would have required more than 800 units and made installation and ongoing maintenance difficult and unsafe.
Dooley Tackaberry recommended VESDA VLP aspirating smoke detection: each unit covers about 20,000 sq ft so fewer than 40 units were needed, cutting installation costs by ~40% and annual maintenance by ~80%. The pipe-based sampling system allowed detectors to be floor-mounted for safer servicing, offered adjustable high-sensitivity settings to minimize nuisance alarms, and was networked via VESDAnet for centralized monitoring and management.
