Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), India’s largest pillar‑free convention hall (6,480 m² with a 15 m ceiling), needed a reliable early smoke detection solution for large, open events where smoke dilutes, stratifies and may never reach conventional spot or beam detectors. The venue required a system that could detect very low levels of smoke quickly, avoid disruptive maintenance at ceiling height and protect thousands of attendees and high‑value assets.

HICC installed 10 VESDA LaserSCANNER air‑sampling detectors with vertical sampling pipes and remote displays tied into the Siemens fire alarm and building management systems; the detectors sit at catwalk entrances for easy access. In the first 12 months the system detected very low levels of smoke twice, allowing faults to be fixed without interrupting events, and has delivered low ongoing maintenance costs.
