Banham Poultry Limited protects its biomass plant with Xtralis and 70% faster beam installation

Banham Poultry Limited, a UK-based chicken producer, sought a reliable fire detection solution for its new biomass power plant. The large, open fuel storage area presented a challenge, as traditional infrared beam detectors were unsuitable due to building movement and contamination from dust. This led them to work with vendor Xtralis to find a better alternative.

Xtralis implemented its OSID Open Area Smoke Imaging Detection system. The solution provided reliable volumetric coverage, was highly tolerant of building movement, and dramatically reduced false alarms caused by dust. The successful implementation resulted in a system that protects the facility, which processes 1,200 tonnes of material weekly to generate enough electricity for over 7,000 homes.
