Builders FirstSource, the nation’s largest supplier of building products and prefabricated components for residential construction, needed a better way to hire across 430+ locations. The company had relied heavily on temp staffing for entry-level roles and struggled to fill more specialized positions like Sawyers, Boom/Crane Operators, Material Handlers, and drivers, especially at its pilot facilities. WorkStep helped them transition off temp labor with a single hiring solution across all facilities.
WorkStep started with a focused pilot at one facility, placing candidates for Sawyers and Class A Drivers, then expanded to support all non-exempt roles across the initial region. The results were strong: BFS saw about 4 direct hires per month per metro area at the outset, 0% turnover of WorkStep placements through the first 3 months, and 100% of non-exempt roles sourced primarily through WorkStep. The partnership later grew to over 7 states, with managers praising the quality of candidates and the shift away from temp agencies.
