A WoodWing Software Case Study
Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde (NTvG), the Dutch national journal for medicine, needed to shift from a print‑first to an online‑first workflow. Contributors submitted Word files via Editorial Manager and NTvG relied on multiple external vendors to tag, convert and style content into XML for web and print, making production slow, labor‑intensive and hard to manage.
Working with implementation partner Qongord, WoodWing Software deployed WoodWing Studio in a private‑cloud setup to automatically convert Word submissions into structured digital articles, integrate with Drupal and Adobe InDesign, and centralize production. The change automated roughly 80–90% of the layout process, eliminated most external parties, cut production times and long‑term costs, enabled on‑the‑fly multi‑channel publishing and improved internal communication and planning (with about 8–10 staff now using the system since going live in April 2018).
