SAS Airlines Optimizes Passenger Revenue Accounting Processes

SAS Airlines, the Nordic region’s largest listed airline, faced pressure to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and boost productivity in its passenger revenue accounting (PRA) operations after weak demand and post-9/11 capacity cuts. To address this, SAS evaluated outsourcing and selected WNS to manage PRA for both its internal operations and hosted revenue accounting services, using systems including Impala and Strex.

WNS implemented a lift-and-shift transition into its Center of Excellence in India, supported by its EnABLE methodology, detailed training, and process documentation. WNS re-engineered and consolidated key revenue accounting processes, delivering several million dollars in recoveries within a year, improving interline sampling accuracy from 98% to 99%, reducing turnaround time by over 50%, handling 7.5 million exception transactions, and cutting annual operating costs by about 30%.
