Making a lasting impact at Wellcome Trust reducing waste by 70%

Wellcome Trust, a global charitable foundation, was looking for a way to better understand and reduce food waste at its central London head office catering operation. Through its caterer, Restaurant Associates (part of Compass Group UK & Ireland), the organization brought in Winnow and its food waste monitoring system to identify where waste was occurring and support more sustainable operations.

Winnow installed its digital scale and smart meter at the Wellcome Trust site to track waste patterns and provide actionable data for the kitchen team. The results were significant: food waste was reduced by more than 70%, avoiding an estimated 4.4 tonnes of food waste and 19 tonnes of CO2, while also helping the kitchen maintain a high-quality service and become a blueprint for others.
