How an IKEA store in Southampton - UK reduced their food waste by 75%

IKEA’s store in Southampton, UK was looking to cut food waste as part of IKEA’s broader “Food Is Precious” initiative, which aims to halve food waste across its stores. To help tackle the challenge, IKEA used Winnow’s smart scale to measure and understand where waste was coming from and improve kitchen efficiency.

With Winnow, the Southampton team began reviewing waste reports daily and using the insights to adjust production, including matching menu output to weather-driven customer demand. The result was a 75% reduction in food waste, saving 52,846 meals and delivering estimated annual savings of €87,628.
