Food is Precious for IKEA Gent which plans to halve food waste by August 2020

IKEA Gent, a store of the global home furnishings and food retailer, faced the challenge of meeting an ambitious target to halve its food waste. To achieve this sustainability goal, IKEA partnered with Winnow and implemented its smart scales and analytics system to gain detailed insights into their kitchen waste.

By using Winnow's technology to measure and analyze what was being thrown away, the IKEA Gent team was able to change their kitchen behaviors. They began cooking more food to order, adjusted baking schedules for peak times, and held regular strategy meetings based on the data. As a result of implementing Winnow, the store reduced its food waste by 22%, saving over €21,000 annually and preventing 7 tonnes of CO2 from being released, which is equivalent to saving over 4,000 meals.
