Virgin Trains, the long-standing operator of the UK’s Intercity West Coast franchise, needed to improve its online customer experience across phone, computer, tablet and mobile while working with a small in‑house team. To accelerate a continuous testing programme and prove the value of optimisation quickly, Virgin Trains partnered with Webtrends Optimize and its testing/optimisation technology and expert services.
Webtrends Optimize implemented a rapid test focused on speeding up the ticket search tool, cutting load time by 93% (from 3.0s to 0.2s). That change delivered a 6.7% uplift in mobile conversions and a 1.5% uplift on desktop, with overall results statistically significant at >98%, and established Webtrends Optimize as a trusted adviser to the Virgin Trains team.
