Case Study: Mount Sinai Health System cuts average days to payment by 39% with Waystar

A Waystar Case Study

Preview of the Mount Sinai Case Study

Waystar enabled Mount Sinai Health System to consolidate clearinghouses and bring revenue cycle management into a single service

Mount Sinai, a Top 20 health system with eight hospitals and 7,200 physicians handling more than 4 million patient visits and roughly 400,000 remits monthly, faced fragmented billing across three platforms and three clearinghouses, outsourced claims support, manual divergent workflows, disparate data sources, increased errors and slow adjudication that drove up A/R days. To centralize and automate its patient billing operations, Mount Sinai partnered with Waystar, leveraging Waystar’s Claim Manager, Remit Manager, Remit & Deposit Manager, Claim Monitoring and Analytics & Reporting capabilities.

Waystar implemented an end-to-end, Epic-integrated solution with exception-based work queues, automated batching and smart 835 file splitting, automated cash reconciliation, and dynamic analytics dashboards. As a result, Waystar helped Mount Sinai reduce average days to payment/rejection by 39% (from 36 to 22 days), reallocate the equivalent of three FTEs to higher-value work (8 to 5 FTEs), increase backend automation from 2 to 8 processes, and significantly improve reporting, visibility and decision-making.
