Emergency Mobile Health Care (EMHC), a locally owned EMS provider serving more than a million people around Memphis and answering over 75,000 calls a year, struggled with growing billing and back-office complexity, rising outsourced billing costs, low collection rates and poor visibility into billing operations. To address this, EMHC turned to Waystar, implemented alongside ZOLL RescueNet solutions, using features such as Eligibility Verification, Claims Management, Patient Payments and the ZBilling Eligibility Module to integrate dispatch and billing workflows.
Waystar’s integrated solution (paired with ZOLL) put eligibility checks into dispatch, centralized claims and payments, and introduced a clearing‑house workflow that eliminated dual entry. As a result, EMHC increased collections from 50% to 80% (a 30% improvement), now pre-bills up to 70% of transports (twice prior levels), handles roughly 2× the billing volume with >20% fewer dedicated FTEs (eligibility staff reduced from three to 1.5), and eliminated weekly backlogs—improving both the bottom line and patient billing experience.
