Case Study: Atrium Health boosts collections by $11M+ and uncovers $75M in presumptive charity with Waystar

A Waystar Case Study

Preview of the Atrium Health Case Study

Driving consistent policies and procedures across the health system

Atrium Health, the largest vertically integrated healthcare system in the Carolinas, faced a “one size fits all” collections approach and early outsourcing that drove up costs and limited cash recovery. To transform processes, reduce costs and increase cash, Atrium Health partnered with Waystar, leveraging Waystar’s predictive analytics and revenue-cycle solutions.

Waystar deployed Advanced Propensity to Pay to segment insource/outsource workflows, implemented Agency Manager for vendor oversight, and used Presumptive Charity front- and back-end to identify eligible accounts. As a result of the Waystar partnership, Atrium Health recognized more than $11M in annual collection improvements (including $4.6M in-house, $3.4M early out, and $3M+ from bad-debt vendor performance), reduced vendor fees, and reclassified over $75M to charity while improving patients’ financial experiences and supporting 501(r) compliance.
