Columbia Gorge Family Medical, a Rural Health Center in north-central Oregon with 10 providers and up to 700 encounters per week, faced a high volume of Medicare and institutional (UB‑04) claims that often required immediate, on-the-fly edits to meet RHC rules. In 2014 the practice switched to Waystar, using Waystar’s clearinghouse and its integration with the eClinicalWorks EHR/billing system to address cumbersome claims workflows and reduce manual rework.
Waystar enabled front-end editing directly on the claim form, provided end-to-end visibility into claims, and delivered proactive communications to flag payer issues, so staff could quickly correct problems and manage ERAs. As a result, Columbia Gorge Family Medical sped submissions, tightened claims editing, improved cash flow and increased revenue — achieving 70% fewer denials and appeals and winning 98% of all appeals while filing faster even after adding providers.
