Rogers Centre Goes Cashless for the Upcoming Baseball Season

Rogers Centre, the retractable-roof stadium in downtown Toronto and home of the Toronto Blue Jays, needed a safe, contact-minimizing way to reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic. With capacity limited to about 15,000 fans and strict distancing rules, stadium management wanted to go cashless but still accommodate patrons who carry only physical currency—so they engaged Wavetec to deploy a cash-to-card solution.

Wavetec installed Reverse ATM kiosks across the venue that convert cash into active prepaid Visa/Mastercard cards in about 60 seconds, using a simple three-step touchscreen workflow. The Wavetec deployment enabled stadium-wide cashless transactions, reduced handling of physical currency (cutting associated bacterial transmission risk), and mitigated physical contact at points of sale for concessions, merchandise and tickets.
