Zona Sul’s innovative culture is accelerating the future of grocery shopping in Brazil

Zona Sul, a family-owned grocery chain from Rio de Janeiro with a 20-year digital transformation history, faced accelerating online demand and the need to focus on core retail while continuing to innovate. To offload day-to-day ecommerce development and move faster, Zona Sul outsourced its platform work to VTEX in January 2020, seeking agility, composability and easier integrations.

VTEX provided a composable front-end approach and rapid integration capabilities that let Zona Sul deploy features such as Alexa and Google Home voice commerce (making it the first Brazilian grocery to offer voice shopping), Google Lens photo and voice search, and integrations for rewards and CRM. By partnering with VTEX, Zona Sul freed internal resources to pilot innovations like gated-community drone delivery and improve customer experience, driving stronger retention and sales potential (the case study does not provide specific numerical metrics).
