A VPI Case Study
The City of Elgin Police Department, which serves a population of about 95,000 and handles over 20,000 calls and 200,000 radio transmissions per month, was facing imminent failure of its aging digital voice-logging system—frequent logger breakdowns, missed calls and rising repair costs threatened compliance and operational continuity. After evaluating proposals, the department selected VPI and its Activ! Voice logging system to address these mission-critical recording needs.
VPI’s Activ! Voice delivered a fault-tolerant, network-friendly solution with 48 continuous recording channels (scalable to double and thousands), dual mirrored hot‑swappable 80 GB drives providing over 11,000 hours of storage, VoIP/analog/digital support, automated 90-day retention and fine-grained user/security controls. The VPI deployment eliminated missed calls and downtime, cut expensive service visits, improved remote access and call retrieval (including instant email of recordings), and boosted staff productivity—saving hundreds of staff-hours and reducing operational risk.
