A VPI Case Study
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, which handles more than one million calls annually across a 22,000-square-mile jurisdiction, was struggling with an end-of-life voice logger that recorded to DVDs and made storage and retrieval costly and time-consuming. After evaluating options, the department selected VPI and its VPI recording system to provide continuous, networked recording and online storage to replace the obsolete logger.
VPI implemented a redundant, software-driven recording solution (deployed on county-approved Dell servers) that records critical channels locally and streams all audio over the WAN to the county SAN, captures ANI/ALI and 911 trunks from the moment dialing begins, and supports searchable, sequential reconstruction of events. The VPI system enabled faster, more reliable retrieval for prosecutors and supervisors, improved productivity and turnaround time, provides local playback for over a year, and allows SBCSD to record and access over one million calls per year with far greater efficiency.
